Hinsdale
Hinsdale is an established, affluent, near Western Suburb of Chicago located 20 miles west of town. It bridges both Cook County and Du Page County. Hinsdale is noteworthy for its custom housing, mature trees, excellent public schools, and ease of commuting access into the city of Chicago.
On all levels, the public school system in Hinsdale consistently ranks among the best in all of Illinois. In this system, there are seven elementary schools, two middle schools (in School District 181) and one high school, Hinsdale Central High School. Even if you do not intend to use the public schools, they are a monumentally large draw at time of re-sale.
Hinsdale is the ultimate commuters’ town. Commuters have a quick drive into the loop (downtown Chicago) via the Stevenson (Interstate 55) and Eisenhower (Interstate 290) expressways. While Hinsdale is a small village (17,000 residents), it has three Metra train depots. Those who use air travel for their jobs will particularly love Hinsdale as it is within 30 minutes of both O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport. This means that it’s close enough to be convenient, but far enough away so it’s not too loud.
Downtown Hinsdale, located along the Burlington-Northern/Santa Fe railway, is a quintessential Midwestern downtown. It looks like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. There are quaint shops, boutique businesses and a few restaurants. Though Hinsdale is commonly referred to as the epicenter of teardown activity in the country, traditionally designed 100-year-old homes nicely coexist with new custom quality construction.
Essentially, there are two categories of neighborhoods in Hinsdale - in-town and out-of-town. Commonly, this means that homes located south of Ogden Avenue and north of 55th Street are considered in-town as they offer easy convenient walk-to access to all that the town offers. The homes located north of Ogden Avenue and south of 55th Street offer larger lots, more living space and more scenic settings than their in-town counterparts. You can find all MLS listings of Hinsdale homes for sale here.
